JANUARY 17, 2018 - MARYSVILLE, CALIFORNIA: The Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox have signed Nick Ultsch to play for the summer season. “We’ve heard great things about Nick and are extremely excited for him to play for us this season,” says VP/GM Michael Mink.
Nick will be joining the Gold Sox as a left-handed pitcher/first baseman. He is currently a Junior at the University of Puget Sound where he is double majoring in Political Science and International Political Economy.
“His fastball moves and he gets great break on his off speed pitches,” said UPS Head Coach Jeff Halstead. “When he commands the zone, he is an outstanding left-handed pitcher in our league.”
Ultsch appeared in eight games out of the bullpen and recorded a 5.14 ERA in seven innings of work this season for UPS. He held opposing hitters to a combined .208 batting average across 24 batters faced.
Before each game of his, he has to take time to “visualize success,” in order to prepare. “I am excited to join the Gold Sox family and I can’t wait to play in front of the best fans in the Great West League,” said Ultsch.
