MARYSVILLE, CALIFORNIA: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2018 - The Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox ended their 17th season last month at Colusa Casino Stadium. “It has been an eventful season, but I am proud of how our team handled adversity and overcame the hurdles thrown at them,” said VP/GM Michael Mink.

The recent fires in Northern California had an enormous impact on the team towards the end of the season. Though the last three home games were supposed to be played against the Klamath Falls Gems, the devastating Carr Fire made it difficult for the team to travel. The Great West League made the decision not to let the teams travel to and from Oregon, to prevent further complications and the Gold Sox ended up playing the Lincoln Potters at home.

The Gold Sox were set to finish off the season on the road against the San Francisco Seals; however, due to unforeseen complications with the Seals, the team was only able to play one game there. The Gold Sox then set their sights on finishing the season in Medford and were able to play one game against the Rogues; however, poor air quality due to the surrounding fires forced the last game of the season to be cancelled.

Three teams made it to the GWL Playoffs: Chico Heat, Medford Rogues, and Lincoln Potters. The Rogues and the Potters were set to play a 3-game series in Medford; however, due to the poor air quality, the GWL decided to make the playoffs a one-game, winner take all. The Potters won with a final score of 12-4. The Potters then took on the Chico Heat for the 2018 GWL Championship and after 2 suspenseful games, the Chico Heat won the title.
With the eventful season wrapped up, we are gearing up for an unforgettable 18th season at Colusa Casino Stadium. Ticket and advertising information will be available soon.

The Great West League is one of the premier summer collegiate wood bat leagues in North America, providing a professional, minor league baseball atmosphere for top college players seeking professional baseball careers, while providing affordable family entertainment and enriching the quality of life in its member communities.
