The Maryville Gold Sox are proud to announce the addition of Shinpei Kanamori to The Gold Sox Baseball Club. Kanamori, 19, will soon be embarking on a long journey with the help of Gold Sox General Manager Michael Mink, from his lifelong home of Aichi-Gun, Aichi, Japan to the friendly confines of the Colusa Casino Stadium. “Mr. Mink has been very kind to me and I appreciate what he has done for me.” Kanamori has expressed. “We are excited as an organization to have such a quality person and player as Shinpei. Myself and Coach Walker will do everything we can to help Shinpei’s dream of being a great baseball player in America a reality” said GM Michael Mink.
Shinpei attends Tokai Gakuen University in Miyoshi, Aichi, Japan. Aside from being a student, Kanamori also pitches for the school’s baseball team. Pitching at a speed in the low 90’s, he compliments his fast ball with a slider and a curve with an occasional split. Shinpei is “very excited about coming to the U.S.” and feels that he “can learn more about technique from playing American baseball.”
He first heard about the Gold Sox while watching Japanese television and thought to himself “This is a good team.” Kanamori and his family have been speaking with Michael Mink since the end of last year. Mink has established a trusting, friendship with the Kanamori family. “My family and I have enjoyed working with Mr. Mink to bring me to the United States.” Said Kanamori
We cannot blame Shinpei for being a little nervous about his quest here, “I am looking forward to playing baseball in the U.S. but also nervous about coming to a foreign land and not knowing English very well.” Kanamori has expressed. Not to fret Shinpei; the Gold Sox baseball team and the community welcomes your arrival! “I’m excited to work with Shinpei and develop a change up to improve his arsenal of pitches.” said Coach Mike Walker.
When Kanamori isn’t on the field he enjoys reading and watching movies. Some of his favorite movies are “Spiderman”, “Kick-Ass”, “Moneyball”, and “Star Wars”.
Shinpei Kanamori will be arriving in Marysville at the end of May and is very excited to live with his new host family, longtime Gold Sox hosts; the Kirshner family of Yuba City.
