LOCAL GROUP TO OPERATE GOLD SOX
Entertainment and Economic Impact Inspires New Owners To Act
The Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox will take the field at Colusa Casino Stadium this summer for their 18th season thanks to a group of local civic leaders and businessmen.
YCM Baseball Group, LLC announced today that it has come to an agreement with the Gold Sox former owners that will allow it to operate the club in 2019 and the years to come.
YCM (Yuba City/Marysville) Baseball Group, LLC was formed by a number of local individuals for the purpose of keeping baseball alive in the Yuba-Sutter community.
“Our community has a long tradition of baseball going back to the 1870’s” said YCM member John Cassidy. “It was important to keep the Gold Sox in Yuba-Sutter not only from a civic and historic perspective but also from an economic perspective.” Cassidy added.
Since their initial season in 2003, the Gold Sox have employed between 40 to 50 local residents each year. In addition to the jobs created, the economic impact of having the organization in the Yuba-Sutter community has resulted in millions of dollars coming into and staying in the region.
“On top of the 25 student-athletes that come to play for the Gold Sox and live in the community each summer, every weekend you have visiting teams with their fans coming into town. They eat at our restaurants, stay at our hotels, purchase gas and give a boost to the local economy” commented Cassidy.
While this unprecedented group is still being formed, in addition to Cassidy, CEO of Sierra Central Credit Union, the group currently includes Al Montna of Montna Farms; former Gold Sox owner Tom Lininger; and former MLB player and coach Matt Walbeck.
A media day is set to occur at Colusa Casino Resort within the next couple weeks, officially announcing all of the outstanding members of YCM Baseball Group and plans for the 2019 season. All local media and fans are invited out to watch the announcement and meet with the new group. The date and time for the media day will be released in the coming days. The Gold Sox look forward to writing the next chapter in historic Yuba-Sutter baseball. Let’s play ball!
